2019 Tour | Soprano Spotlight

Welcome to the soprano spotlight! Read on to find out what Amanda and Maria have to say about Tehillah this year.

How does Tehillah’s vision of bringing praise to God impact you personally?

Amanda: I find a natural tendency to want to take pride in my singing abilities; and our goal of bringing praise to God alone helps keep my focus in the right place.
Maria: I’m challenged to live an over all lifestyle of praise to Jesus; as I sense is the spirit of the entire group. Presenting a program can then be a natural outflow of that.

What are some key factors that will keep you coming back?

Amanda: The small size gives it a personal feel and is conducive to building close connections with the other members.
Maria:  I see it as a way to further my music education and interact with a group of people who desire to do the same.

Tell us why singing soprano is so awesome!

Amanda: I love how first soprano serves as an embellishment; like singing a descant for instance, it can feel kinda flashy in a fun way. You get to “ice the cake” and feel a high. 🙂
Maria: It is a privilege to have a leading part in the music. I admire sopranos with that sweet soprano tone that can take hard work to cultivate, and it’s something I aspire to grow in.

What have been the most significant influences in your musical journey?

Amanda: Being in Lyle Stutzman’s class voice (EBI) was a game changer. Prior to that, I had little appreciation for singing.
Maria: Growing up singing with family and being under Lyle’s teaching and directing at EBI.

Which song ministers the most to you and why?
Amanda: I waited patiently. This past year has held multiple periods of waiting and this song promises God’s faithfulness in coming through for us, even while we wait.
Maria: My cry. I love the honestly and vulnerability the composer portrays.

Favorite aspect of bus life?
Amanda:
The coziness. Being packed in like sardines and endeavoring to travel in the most efficient manner is amusing.
Maria: The variety of activities and positive attitude of everyone around me.

Advice of the day?!
Amanda:
If you want to save money on tour, follow Maria around. 🙂
Maria: We can be engaged in great spiritual activities such as this tour, but if our hearts are not in tune with Jesus, it doesn’t do us or anyone else any good.
