We awakened to a beautiful foggy morning in Virginia. Kenneth Martin, from our host church, took the bus and returned it smelling much fresher. We met at Pike Mennonite, Ruth’s home church.
Sounds of chatter and snippets of “Living Hope” filled the bus as we traveled down I-81. The conversation turned to heavy theological discussions about penal substitution, Christus Victor theory, ransom theory, and various writers’ views on salvation. Some of us napped or entertained the children.
We stopped in Charleston for a long lunch break with plenty of food options and pleasant sunshine to enjoy while off the bus.
The afternoon was uneventful, and we arrived at Light of Truth in good time. The service didn’t start until 7:30, and we had plenty of time to work through some spots in our music. The sanctuary was a very live space to sing in, and we discovered the air conditioner hummed very closely to the key of B.
Supper was delicious: stromboli, corn chip salad, chips, cheese cubes, and mixed fruit. We greeted family and friends who filled the auditorium and fortunately deadened the air conditioner hum. The program went well and we enjoyed the congregation’s response during a sharing time after we sang. We closed the service with a requested encore of “For All My Sin.”
