Tour 2025 | Day 4

We left the flat farmland of Arthur, Illinois, after a leisurely late call time of 9:15 and headed southwest. The bus filled with laughter and chatter as lively games and conversations ensued.

We arrived at Fairview Mennonite Church in the rolling hills of Kalona, Iowa, shortly after 4:00 and scoped out the acoustics of the sanctuary. The plush carpet on the stage felt amazing to stand on, but it deadened our sound very effectively. Several fast-thinking ensemble members added a few tables onto the stage floor, and we could suddenly hear a good bit more!

After some warm-up and practice, we enjoyed a delicious supper of taco salad, fruit, cookies, and bars before our performance. And then off to our gracious hosts for some much-needed sleep!

The ensemble members like to sing with other choirs and groups. I asked them for their favorite pieces of music that they’ve sung with any group. Here’s the list they gave me:
Prayer of Thankful Praise
And Can It Be
Behold Our God
Hymn of Heaven
You Are Mine
O Magnum Mysterium
Let This Mind Be in You
One Thing I Desire
Ubi Caritas
You Are My Praise
Down in the River
Psalm 42
As For You, My Son
Is He Worthy?
